I might as well start today since 1) I have a day off and my sis is not around so I can use the computer freely and 2) I watched this really intense Korean movie called Oldboy.
So I decided to make full use of my day off to watch a movie and avoid the $2 weekend premium. Also, I decided to watch a show in the city on a Monday afternoon since it would be much less crowded than the weekend.
"Old Boy" is basically a rehash of the Greek / Jacobean themes of sexual taboo and revenge. Not sure if I'm giving too much of the plot away but probably only literature students will get the clue ; ). In the end, the tremendous spectacle of the last half hour didn't generate any catharsis on my part. This was due to the fact that my platoon sergeant was frantically calling my handphone and I had to sneak out of the theatre which broke the "suspension of disbelief" that is integral part of watching a play/ movie etc. I would only recommend this movie to those with a strong stomach and interested in gore / sex. Which means most people are going to see it anyway.
